Local council elections are held every four years in Victoria with the next election due in October 2024 (except Moira Shire Council).
Each local government council has their own Councillor structure depending on their size.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council
- The Macedon Ranges Shire Council is made up of three wards:
- East Ward (towns include Riddells Creek, Romsey and Lancefield)
- South Ward (towns include Gisborne, New Gisborne and Macedon)
- West Ward (towns include Kyneton, Woodend, Tylden and Malmsbury)
- There are nine councillors elected to the Macedon Ranges Shire Council – three from each ward
Voting
- Residents (Council enrolled voters) vote for their preferred councillor from a list of candidates specifically from the Ward in which they live
- Voting will take place by post
- The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) will send ballot packs to all enrolled voters to complete and send back
- Ballot packs will be mailed to Macedon Ranges Residents from the 7 October 2024
- Different members of a household may get their ballot pack at different times
- Votes need to be mailed back in the reply paid envelope by no later than 6 pm on 25 October 2024
- Voting is based on a system called preference voting
